overview

This series was developed for my senior art exhibition, “Structure and Soul.” The exhibition’s core objective was to demonstrate the intersection of strategic marketing and creative execution. The show featured three distinct pillars: one project driven heavily by strategy, one driven by pure creative expression, and a third serving as the equilibrium between the two. These posters represent the "creative" pillar, focusing on artistic inspiration and experimental design.

research + direction

With these posters, I wanted to see what I could do without the usual pressure of assignments, deadlines, or oversight. I didn’t need to do a lot of formal research because I already had a mental library of techniques and ideas I’d been wanting to try out. This project gave me the chance to finally lean into those inspirations and just focus on the pure creative side of my work.

design + rationale

The objective was to bridge the gap between my personal interests and my professional portfolio. While pop culture and music have always been sources of inspiration, my previous work lacked any context of that. To resolve this, I developed a series of experimental, authentic poster designs, each named after a song that shaped the visual direction. After producing six distinct concepts, I selected four visually diverse pieces that showcased a mastery of varied aesthetics and modern design techniques.

results

The posters successfully diversified my portfolio and provided a clear look into my creative influences. The series effectively met the goal of the exhibition: demonstrating that my capabilities extend beyond corporate strategy into high-level, experimental visual art.

bonus

My exhibition, “Structure and Soul”, was awarded the Dean’s Award in the School of Visual and Performing Arts, and I received formal recognition for this work at graduation.
